Hear from clinical trial participants

In mid-2023, I was accepted into a weight study conducted by Eli Lilly at the Fort Worth Endocrine Research Center. From the front desk receptionist to the managing staff, I am extremely impressed by their professionalism. My primary coordinator, Chelsea Padilla, has streamlined the process and ensured that it was easy to follow. During my initial visit, I met with the local doctor, who alleviated my concerns about taking a new medication and reiterated the information in the signed documents regarding the possibility of receiving a placebo. The prescribed medication has been straightforward to follow and have caused minimal side effects. However, each visit with my coordinator involved a discussion of any positive or negative issues that may have arisen. I am grateful to have been a participant in this review.

I was hesitant at first about committing to the trial study, but have been very pleased that I said "yes".  The research team at Fort Worth ERC is very organized and there for any needs or questions.   The trial has been easy to comply with and the team guides you in all aspects of the trial.  I would be happy to do another trial, if it was offered to me, after this trial ends.

Since I have been in the study I have dealt with 5 people including the manager. All of them have been good listeners, kind, interested in me, patient and answered all of my questions to my satisfaction. When I call, they respond quickly and none of them rush through my visits. Because of a surgery I had to temporarily discontinue the trial, but when I was ready to return, I was quickly reinstated. If all medical people were like them there would be more trust and less confusion.

Risks to be aware of

While the risks you may encounter with clinical trials are minimal, we want you to be fully informed. So here they are:

PLACEBOS

Although not every trial has a placebo group, some trials may have a placebo group. You may end up getting a placebo instead of the new medication you were hoping for.

SIDE EFFECTS

Medications can have side effects – there is a possibility you may experience negative reactions, but we’re carefully monitoring you every step of the way and we’ll help you through them.

YOUR CONCERNS
OUR REMEDIES

I’m afraid of being treated like a guinea pig.

You’ll be seen by a highly qualified physician or medical personnel. And you can rely on our professional Care Team to be there to help you and answer your questions – even after you complete the trial.

I’m worried that the trial could be harmful to my health.

Your health and safety are our entire team’s number one priority! We’ll never pressure you to participate, and if there’s any chance that your health could be badly affected, you won’t be allowed into the trial. Once admitted, you’ll be caringly monitored throughout.

What if I can’t afford to travel to and from the trial appointments?

ERC always covers all your travel expenses, whatever they may involve. You’ll also receive compensation for time spent.
